I love this time of year when there are so many great fresh fruits available and I love to make smoothies with them because they are a great way to enjoy a delicious, healthy treat! Kids love them and they are a great alternative treat for breakfast. Here is a great recipe – you can vary the fruit – right now I am using blueberries and strawberries in mine as this is peak season for these fruits!
A frozen banana is the backbone of a good smoothie. I never toss out over-ripe bananas — I just peel them and store them in a bag in the freezer.
- Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup nonfat yogurt
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/4 cup blueberries, washed (or other in season fruit)
- Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serves 1.
