Is your child growing up too fast? Are you allowing them to have too many privileges or lavishing them with too many material possessions? We all want our kids to have the best things in life, but as the saying goes, “the best things in life are not things”! As parents we need to learn to set boundaries and stop rushing our children out of their childhood. Yes, they want “things” but we need to teach our kids that there is nothing wrong with waiting until the appropriate time or age to have the things they want. Give them something to look forward to! Too many kids are used to “instant gratification” and we know the problems that can lead to long term! We need to give our kids stages in life to look forward to. I remember as a kid having to wait until a certain age to do certain things – like shaving my legs! I didn’t want to wait but my mom said that when I turned 12 that I could have that privilege. It gave me something to look forward to! I couldn’t wait and guess what I got for my 12th birthday? You guessed it – a razor and shaving cream! That was the best birthday present ever! It’s okay to embrace your child’s new stages of life with them and teach them appropriately in the process. Be excited with them! You know, kids grow up way too fast as it is – let’s not hurry the process! For more information on this subject go to:
