In honor of Child Passenger Safety Week, I am proud to be doing a review of the Elite 80 Air + 3-in-1 Car Seat!

Wow, there are no words to express my amazement when I first laid eyes on my new Safety 1st Elite 80 Air + 3-in-1 Car Seat! This car seat is the Cadillac of all car seats and you can see that the moment you take it out of the box. Obviously, the safety features of this car seat are the reason I know it’s one of the best, but just by looking at it you feel at ease about how safe your most valuable and precious asset- your baby- will be!

The first feature that got me interested in this car seat is the safety aspects it offers. This car seat offers an Air Protect side-impact protection system. Air-filled pillows on either side of the child’s head divert crash forces away from the head by controlled release of air through tiny holes in the cushions and the patented GCell HX™ foam designed with hexagonal shapes offer superior protection around the torso. TOGETHER they provide full body side impact protection. .On the Safety 1st website they offer videos that show the crash testing that was performed while manufacturing this car seat. I could not find another car seat that appeared to have such great crash testing results, and after all that is why you are putting your baby in a car seat in the first place. You want to make sure that if something were to happen, that your baby would be safe. I really got that feeling and felt that comfort after watching the video and seeing the car seat for myself. This car seat offers so much cushioning that you just know your baby is safe, but comfortable.

One of the other great draws to the Safety 1st Elite 80 3-in-1 Convertible Car Seat is the fact that it is convertible. For me this is huge. I do not want to waste money every few months buying a new car seat to fit my growing baby. This car seat fits children 5-100lbs! That is the entire time a child would be using a car seat…one car seat for their whole childhood? I thought it was too good to be true, but it is true. It converts from a rear facing car seat into a forward facing car seat. An added feature to this, is that your baby can remain rear facing up to 40 lbs. which is proven to be the safest way for a baby to be in a car seat. It is so easy to then convert the car seat into the forward facing position. In its 3rd mode, the Elite 80 goes beyond the traditional convertible seat to convert into a belt-positioning booster car seat for children up to 100 pounds. There is also a 10-position headrest, a 4 position recline and 2 integrated cup holders on each side.

The Elite 80 also includes a steel-reinforced metal frame for extra stability and includes a 4-position recline for an optimal fit to your car. Safety 1st has also included color-coded belt paths and installation labels to help you install it quickly and correctly, which means less time getting it into your car and more time to enjoy the ride.

Another cool thing about this is the QuickFit harness system with a push button latch. QuickFit allows you to adjust the harness height from the front without re-threading the harness or without uninstalling the car seat. That, in my opinion is a another huge asset!

With all the great benefits this beautiful heavy duty car seat has to offer, I am looking forward to my baby growing along with this car seat … and then using for a second baby! It is very durable and the covering is machine washable, so there is no doubt it will be long lasting, and most importantly, safe for my little one!

This week 9/16, it is Child Passenger Safety Week and here are a few Travel Safety Tips from Julie Vallese, Consumer Safety Expert for Safety 1st:

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 75% of car seats on the road are installed incorrectly.

– The safest place to install a car seat is typically in the center of the rear seat.

– Check in with a local Child Passenger Safety Technician to ensure your child’s seat is installed correctly. You can visit a local police station, fire station, AAA office or Safe Kids Chapter for guidance.

– The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises parents to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age 2. It also advises that most children will need to ride in a belt-positioning booster seat until they have reached 4 feet 9 inches tall and are between 8 and 12 years of age.

– Don’t leave a child alone in the car. Hyperthermia is a severe form of heat stroke and last year 32 children died after being left or trapped in a hot vehicle. You can learn more about this issue and easy tips to prevent it here.

– Childproof the inside of the car and eliminate projectiles. Anything in the car that is not secured is a possible projectile – even a child’s toy, or a water bottle. In a crash, objects take on greater weight due to crash forces.

– Make sure unused shoulder belts are not in reach of children as they can pose strangulation risk.

– Car seats expire! You can find the expiration date on the back of the car seat. Also, another very important tip – once a car seat has been in a crash you should not use it, plastic can warp and materials can fray. To properly dispose of a car seat check with your local waste management facility to see if they recycle number 5 plastic.
