There is nothing more terrifying than bringing home your newborn and worrying about SIDS. I remember it like it was yesterday. I brought my newborn home 30 years ago and there was no internet at that time to get information nor was there any type of monitor to give me peace of mind. I remember putting my daughter down to nap or to sleep at night and having the thought “what if she stops breathing?” As if there were not enough other things to worry about during this time!
The thing is, times haven’t changed that much when it comes to moms and their worries. They still worry about SIDS. The difference is that NOW there is something that you can do to give you some peace of mind!
My little granddaughter, Marlee Marie was born on April 29th. She is the sweetest little thing and we love her so much! But guess what? Her mama worries about SIDS. She is afraid that she might stop breathing and that she won’t know it. It’s a scary feeling!
Thank goodness we have a little gadget that helps to ease our fears! It’s called the SnuzaGo! and it is a mobile, easy to use movement monitor that clips onto your baby’s diaper to ensure that normal movement is maintained. If no movement is detected for a period of 20 seconds, the SnuzaGo! sounds an audible alarm. This timer can be adjusted from 20 seconds to 18 or 15 seconds and the monitor can also alert you when your baby’s movements are very weak or fall to less that 8 movements per minute.
The monitor is designed to be clipped onto the front of the diaper, near the navel area on a back-sleeping baby. Simply fold the diaper over at the top and then clip the SnuzaGo! to the diaper. To make this device work for tummy sleeping, place it about two inches to the side of baby’s navel, where his/her tummy still moves in and out with each breath. This way, it still activates the sensor and minimizes false alarms. The monitor has an ultra-sensitive tip that is flexible and detects the slightest of movements while monitoring baby’s breathing. We had no problems with getting the monitor clipped to the diaper or with it monitoring correctly.
The other feature that I love about the SnuzaGo! is that it is portable. Some monitors are only useful when your baby is sleeping at home. However, the SnuzaGo! simply travels on your baby’s diaper and can be used anywhere!
Many of you are probably wondering if the SnuzaGo! disturbs baby’s sleeping. It did not disturb Marlee’s sleep at this point, however she is young and has not started turning over yet. Other reviewers report that there was no problem and no disturbance with sleep with the SnuzaGo! monitor.
Another great feature of the SnuzaGo! is that you have the ability to change the battery. It requires a Lithium battery, and you can buy a two pack on Amazon for around $10. We haven’t been using ours that long so we have not had to change the battery yet.
I give the SnuzaGo! two thumbs up! I think that the SnuzaGo! would be a great gift for any new parent. It would give a new mom the peace of mind that she needs to feel a little more relaxed. Remember, SnuzaGo! is a parenting aid that alerts parents to a potential problem so that you can take action. It does not replace the eyes of a caring, loving, nurturing parent.
Please comment below: Parents with newborns often lack sleep due to worrying about their newborn. Did you find yourself struggling to sleep for the first few weeks that you brought your baby home due to worry or from your baby crying?
