Wow! What perfect timing!! This book arrived in late November and my daughter had her first baby last month – sweet Ally Lorraine Magnicari entered this world on December 14th, 2013.
My daughter is head over heels in love with her new baby girl, but she is so ready to get rid of the extra weight. She was thrilled to be able to read this book with me and gain some great tips to help her shed those extra pounds.
The Mommy MD Guide to Losing Weight and Feeling Great is the fourth book in the Mommy MD series. It is written by Jennifer Bright Reich and Rallie McAllister, MD, MPH. Dr. McAllister is a mom of 3 and is a nationally recognized health expert. She had a newspaper column, Your Health, for years which appeared in more than 30 newspapers around the country!
However, what my daughter and I loved the most about the book, is the fact that this is not only the advice of the two authors writing the book, but by more than 150 MD’s and DO’s who are not only experts in their field; they are also mothers that have also had to lose a few pounds and shed baby weight gain!
I really love the way this book is set up! Instead of pages and pages of boring information (like most diet and health books), this book is easy to read and full of humorous little stories by the doctors that have helped put this book together. I love being able to identify with others that are going through the same struggles that I am!
One of the things that I find irritating when trying to follow a diet plan and eat healthy, is the fact that sometimes I can not even find the products that are written about in the book. This is not the case with the Mommy MD Book. They recommend specific brands, products and stores that they found to be helpful in their own lives! That has been priceless for me!
I am also loving the recipes in this book! There are so many that I want to try!! I can’t wait to make the Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip for my Superbowl party!
Now most of my post has focused on weight loss, but I do want to make clear that this is NOT just a weight loss book! The book is divided into two parts: 1) Losing Weight and 2) Feeling Great.
There are chapters on Boosting Your Energy and Recipes to help you do just that! There are also chapters dedicated to Boosting Your Mood and Boosting Your Self Esteem and another on Looking Your Best.
I highly recommend this book to all moms out there that are reading this! Remember, it is important to take care of YOU!! If you don’t, you will not be the best mommy that you can be! Don’t keep putting yourself last when it comes to eating healthy and getting exercise and plenty of rest!
