St Patrick’s Day Tissue Paper Shamrock Kids Craft
Crafts for all abilities!

for Ages 3 Years and Up

Supplies Needed:
  • Tissue Paper in Shades of Green
  • White Construction Paper or Cardboard
  • Green Crayon
  • White Glue
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Craft Bowl (for glue)
  • Shamrock Template or Draw Your Own
  • Adult Scissors
  • Newspaper To Keep The Work Area Clean
Time Needed:

  • Varies depending on the size of the shamrock and the size of the tissue paper pieces you use.

What To Do:

  1. Take out your shamrock template or draw your own shamrock. We had a heart box left from Valentine’s Day so I traced 3 of those to create our shamrock.
HINT: Ours was too big. My kids couldn’t do it and then it took me a long time to finish it up! I suggest making it half the size of a piece of construction paper.Remember, ours was too big!
  2. ADULT: Cut the tissue paper into 2 inch squares (doesn’t have to be exact or measured).
HINT: We used 1″ x 1″ squares of tissue paper. Combined with the size of our shamrock it made the project too long for a preschooler (or tired Mommy). I suggest using 2″ x 2″ pieces of tissue paper so your child will enjoy it and it won’t take too long to complete. We used 3 shades of green tissue paper.
  3. Spread glue and then tissue paper small sections at a time. Use the foam brush to spread some glue in a small section.
HINT: If you put glue on the entire thing, some will be dry by the time you get to it and the tissue paper won’t stick. If you squirt down too much glue it will become very sticky and you’ll have trouble getting the tissue paper off of your fingers.Too large of an area to glue at once. Do it in smaller parts.
  4. Crumple a piece of tissue paper and press it onto the glue.
  5. Continue using random shades of the green tissue paper as you move along.
  6. You’re finished when the whole shamrock is full of tissue paper and you’ve colored in your stem with the green crayon!
  7. Let dry completely!
  8. ENJOY! You’re done! Show it off by hanging your 3D masterpiece on the wall, or stand it up on a shelf!
  9. Don’t Forget to Take a photo and share it with us! You are automatically entered into our WEEKLY GIVEAWAY on our Facebook Page when you post a photo of your finished project and “Like” Us ! Giveaway is randomly selected.
Why We Love Crafts for Kids:
Art develops creative thinking, provides means of communication and self expression, increases self understanding, strengthens self concepts and confidence, serves as an emotional release, provides decision-making opportunities, develops appreciation for the individuality of others, aids physical coordination, develops work habits and a sense of responsibility, heightens aesthetic awareness and sensitivity, and generates joy!
For Children with Special Needs: Assist your child as much as needed – but allow it to be his project.  Art projects are great for fine motor exercise, and using creativity.

If you child has a limited attention span, have all supplies ready before having him begin the project, especially the 2″ x 2″ tissue paper.
This opportunity for hands-on learning with no wrong choices is ideal to foster self esteem as well. Let him choose which green tissue paper to put where.

For Older Children: An older child can further enjoy this project by doing his own scissor work or creating a pattern with the shades of green.
