A few weeks ago I was asked to do a product review for the Baby Bond Nursing Cover. Since I am not a nursing mother, I asked my friend Amanda (from It’s Blogworthy) if she could help me out! She was in the market for a new nursing cover because the one she was using covered her little one’s face and that just wasn’t going very well any more as he has become more active and really likes to see what is going on around him!! Here is Amanda’s honest opinion of the Baby Bond Nursing Cover:
My little guy is four months old and we’ve been nursing the whole time after a rough start. One thing I love about breastfeeding was the convenience factor – no bottles to mix or warm up and if I’m out with him for longer than I anticipated, I don’t have to worry about running out of milk! If we’re together, he can eat.
I nurse in public quite a bit, but always cover up. I usually use a traditional cover, but it gets hot here in Florida, so covering him up isn’t the best option sometimes. Also, like any of the male species, he’s easily distracted. My baby either stares at the pattern on the blanket or flails his arms and pulls it away from my body, defeating the purpose of covering up in the first place.
Besides, the biggest joy in nursing comes from watching his sweet little face and it’s difficult to do when he’s completely covered.
I was so excited to try the Baby Bond. It seemed like a great alternative to covering, much cooler and more discrete. I was not disappointed.
The Baby Bond works like a nursing top. One side has a terrycloth burp cloth and the other has a double layer of fabric that pulls apart so the baby can latch on. My regular top (or nursing top – as long as the top can easily pull down below the breast) covers my stomach and back. I put the Baby Bond on like a sash and un-fasten my nursing bra before pulling the Baby Bond fabric apart and latching my baby. We’re able to interact and look at one another. The fabric is black, so it looks almost like it’s part of your shirt.
The Baby Bond also rolls up tightly, a perfect replacement for a bulky blanket, scarf or wire nursing cover taking up real estate in an already overfilled diaper bag.
As a word of warning, the Baby Bond does take some practice to perfect. There’s a lot less “wiggle room” to adjust your clothes under the garment, so it takes a little getting used to. Also, my baby has very grabby hands and loves to pull it apart even further, which can lead to showing a little extra skin! It took a few tries on our living room couch before I felt comfortable enough to use the garment in public.
With practice, the Baby Bond is a great alternative to traditional covers, blankets and shawls. I’d recommend this product to any nursing mother who wants to feed her baby in a discrete but open way.
